A bachelor party is one of the most exciting events of a groom’s life. It is a party that is entirely devoted to them, and it makes sense that every aspect of it is suited to their wants. What does that mean? This event may end up getting pricey. Between the cost of the venue and the price of the drinks and food, the bachelor party can run up quite a tab. When it comes to these events and all their extravagance, who is responsible for paying?
Never the Groom
Bachelor parties are one of those rare instances where the person who may be planning the party is not responsible for paying. Even if the groom is particular about the location of the party and the people who are invited, he still does not pay for any of the activities of the night.
Are there instances when the groom may pay? There are only a few instances where the groom could pay for himself. Even in these instances, the groom would only be expected to take care of his own expenses and not anyone else’s. The bulk of the costs will still never fall on his shoulders. The few occasions when the groom would have to pay for himself would be if the party was taking place in a different city that required air travel. Because plane tickets can be quite expensive and hotel charges can add up, the groom may be expected to pay his way for the transportation and accommodation part of his bachelor party.
That said, even in those situations, he would still not pay for any of his drinks or food during the bachelor party, whether the party took place in one night or over a weekend.
Split The Costs
The simplest way to make sure the bill gets taken care of is to have everyone chip in. In these situations, the best man can coordinate booking the venue and estimating the costs of transportation, food, and drinks. Once he has a total, he can then contact the attendees of the bachelor party and let them know what they will be expected to contribute. This way, everyone splits the costs evenly and everyone gets to take credit for having paid for the groom.
The downside of this is that not everyone may be able to pay the same amount for the party. This can lead to people feeling left out or dropping out of the party altogether to avoid having to pay the cost.
Everyone Pays for Themselves
To remedy the problem of some people not being able to pay the same sum as everyone else, you could have people only pay for themselves. In this case, people would be expected to find their own transportation to the venue. Then, they would only pay for their own drinks and their own food. Those who are able would cover the groom’s expenses but everyone else would only worry about their own. In these instances, if the venue is being privately booked, it may fall on the best man to pay for the venue or other group expenses.
One Person Pays
You may have one very generous person who is able to pay for the entire party. While this is rare, it is not unheard of. When one person volunteers to pay for the entire party, they can get together with the best man–if they are not the best man already–and coordinate to make sure that everything is paid for before the bachelor party comes along.
Of course, there are some things that you will want to be careful about if you have one person paying for everything. If one person volunteers to pay for the whole party, you will want to make sure that they do not have conditions that will limit the groom’s freedom. The last thing you want is to have to compromise the groom’s vision for their party because the person paying is restricting them.
You’ll also want to make sure that no one is forced into paying simply because they have the money to do so. This can place a great amount of pressure on a person and it may even force that person into not attending at all.
