Who is Supposed to Plan the Bachelorette Party?

A bachelorette party is a momentous part of any wedding. This is the moment when the bride is the star and every part of the day is catered to her. It is rare that a bride will not have a truly memorable bachelorette party. However, who is supposed to be planning these parties? It is always the same person? Can multiple people help? The answer is a little complicated, and it can depend on the bride herself.

The Maid of Honor

In most traditional weddings, the maid of honor is the one who is responsible for the bachelorette party. As a matter of fact, there is very little that the maid of honor is not responsible for. She is the one that the bride turns to for help in picking the venue, her dress, her flowers, her caterer, and a million other things. Because the maid of honor is so intimately involved with the wedding, it only makes sense that she is intimately involved in the bachelorette party.

This is the most traditional way of doing things because the maid of honor is typically the bride’s best friend, so they will be able to anticipate what the bride will like for her venue and for her attendees. If the bride wants to be surprised for her bachelorette party, the maid of honor will know how best to surprise her while staying true to her desires.

Having one person take on all this responsibility can be intimidating. Not every bride may want to put that much pressure on their maid of honor, especially if the maid of honor is helping with other parts of the wedding.

Divvy the Tasks

In order to alleviate the responsibilities of the maid of honor, the bride may choose to have the bridesmaids work together to plan the bachelorette party. In fact, there are weddings where the bride does not select a maid of honor at all. She may do this because she doesn’t want to alienate anyone in her bridal party, or she may do this because she simply doesn’t want any one person in her bridal party to be more important than the others.

With these types of weddings, the bride may have the entire bridal party plan the bachelorette party. The bridal party could meet to discuss what the bride likes and what would be best for her bachelorette party. From there, they could take on individual tasks to make the party happen. For example, one bridesmaid could be in charge of booking the venue for the party while another could be in charge of sending out the invitations. By dividing the tasks between different people, no one gets overwhelmed and the party comes together as a team effort rather than the harried effort of one individual.

Do It Yourself

What happens if the bride has no bridal party? Not every bride is going to want a bridal party. She may do this because she plans on having a small wedding or because her budget is tight. She may choose this just because she doesn’t particularly want a bridal party. However, this does not mean that the bride has to go without a bachelorette party.

Just because a bride chooses not to have a bridal party doesn’t mean that she cannot plan her own bachelorette party. In these cases, the bride has complete control. She can choose her venue herself and then invite whoever she wants. One thing the bride has to mindful of, however, is that she may have to pay for the party herself if she does not include anyone else in the planning.
